About the RoleBlendid is seeking a strong Mechanical Engineering Director to lead our very talented team of mechanical engineers and technicians.The candidate will leverage her/his/their experience and passion to solve intricate problems while creating innovative products that are reliable and commercially viable.The role is in-person at our Sunnyvale, CA headquarters and reports to the Head of Engineering.Key Responsibilities- Mentor and lead a group of mechanical engineers to design, prototype, test and manufacture custom parts, assemblies and products- Integrate third party parts, assemblies or products into the Blendid family of products- Build highly reliable, serviceable, and maintainable products to satisfy customer requirements, mainly in the commercial food preparation space- Develop an engineering roadmap in service of the business roadmap- Responsible for all mechanical engineering artifacts such as architecture, designs, drawings, specifications, manufacturing documentation (including PDM, PLM) and approvals- Serve as the front face for all aspects of mechanical engineering with internal teams, suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, and investors- Interface across levels with other departments such as EE, SW, Product, Marketing, and OperationsAbout You- 5+ years of management experience leading, mentoring and managing engineering teams- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Engineering preferably in Mechanical Engineering- Experience having shipped and managed the full life cycle of multiple medium-to-high complexity products – from concept, to ID, to PD, to manufacturing, documentation, support, and EOL- Strong expertise in CAD SW, ideally Solidworks- Lead with a judicious combination of innovation, reliability, simplicity and cost in developing products- Proven experience releasing products to manufacturing via systems such as Agile and Arena- Expertise in materials and processes – such as plastics, metal – ideally in food space- Maintain a first principles approach to solving problems- Build versus buy decision-making experience- Broad exposure to disciplines such as Thermal (incl. refrigeration), structural, and electromechanical- Start-up experience preferred but not required
