In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That's for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We're solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don't always work, you can still send money with Wave. In 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. Now, we have millions of users across six countries and are growing fast.

How you'll help us achieve it

Scale up user (in-person and online) and business payments in The Gambia, by signing, launching, and growing the most critical corporate partners and informal merchant categories on Wave.

Build and lead a cross-functional payments team, including sales, success, informal merchant opening, and distribution.

Track and analyze team performance, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.

Negotiate commercial agreements, and manage relationships with key partners.

Coordinate the development, roll-out, and management of Wave’s informal merchant network in The Gambia, through the acquisition and growth of quality merchants.

Plan and execute effective growth initiatives, including distribution, ATL and BTL marketing campaigns, and targeted promos.

Contribute towards the development and enhancement of payment products (e.g., e-ticketing, B2B payments, social commerce).

Work with internal risk and compliance teams, to minimize fraud and threats to the security of our customers.
Key details
- Location: You'll work from our office in The Gambia.
- You must have work authorization in The Gambia.

Requirements

Speak both English and Wolof and/or Mandinka fluently.

Have at least five years of relevant work experience, specifically managing a network in fintech, including a minimum of two years of experience managing field-based teams (30+ persons).

Must have worked in, and overseen, merchant network activities in The Gambia.
