Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented and experienced Lead Engineer to help us in our mission by leading the design, development and testing of Avionics, GNC and Flight Software for our lunar lander projects. You will be part of the Future Systems team, reporting to the Program Manager of the project and working closely with the Chief Engineer and other engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as Lead Avionics, GNC & FSW Engineer, your role will continuously evolve, but initially your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Build and lead the multi-disciplinary team across the full development lifecycle.

  • Define requirements and architecture for avionics, GNC and Flight Software.

    • Translate system-level requirements into detailed specifications.

    • Simulation & Modelling: use simulation tools to verify performance, safety, and reliability; optimize designs.

  • Oversee the development, setup and testing of breadboards, engineering models and flight models.

  • Manage buy elements: supplier selection, hardware development oversight, delivery of equipment.

  • Ensure that the system design meets requirements, managing budgets and validating testing and operations concepts.

  • Set up and manage Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments for mission-level simulations and fault management validation.

  • Contribute to ICDs, BOMs, AIT and verification plans, and test reports.

  • Work with the rest of the team to ensure seamless system-level integration.

What we would love to see from you

In the role as Lead Avionics, GNC & FSW Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or another related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in the design and development of systems for aerospace applications.

  • Proven experience in leading multinational teams.

  • Proven experience in the development of GNC and FSW applications for aerospace projects.

  • Broad understanding of the full functional chain of space systems.

  • Strong systems engineering background.

  • Hands-on experience with development, assembly, integration and testing of units for space applications.

  • Understanding of space-relevant standards (ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK).

  • Knowledge of safety-critical design principles.

  • Familiarity with RAMS (FMECA, FDIR, reliability, maintainability, safety).

  • High attention to detail in design, analysis, documentation.

  • Hands-on mindset for testing and debugging.

  • Experience with EEE components and EMI/EMC is a plus.
