Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

At the core of every spacecraft lies its engine. To master this key component, we are building our own state-of-the-art Propulsion Systems, ensuring maximum efficiency, reliability, and performance for our missions.

We are now seeking a highly motivated Master’s-level student to join our Propulsion Systems Division in Munich. In this role, you will help develop custom, reliable, and high-performance software that drives our cryogenic engine.

Key Responsibilities

As a working student in the Engine Controller System team, you will be directly involved in the development of our embedded software stack for the cryogenic engine. This role will evolve over time, but typical responsibilities include:

  • Developing low-level drivers to interface application software with in-house developed hardware.

  • Implementing and testing communication stacks between subsystems (CAN, UART, SPI, Ethernet).

  • Performing hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and writing clear technical documentation.

  • Contributing to unit testing, static analysis, and integration tests to improve software reliability.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical field.

  • Solid foundation in C programming for microcontroller and embedded systems development.

  • Experience and understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) is a plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.

  • Experience in Python scripting.

  • Curious, organized, and able to drive a project autonomously while communicating within a fast-moving team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Prior involvement in a student rocket, Formula Student, or robotics project is nice to have.

Expectations

  • Strong organizing and prioritization of tasks.

  • Positive and flexible attitude to get the job done in a team.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the business.

  • Demonstrate behavior that is consistent with The Exploration Company’s core values of Commitment, Innovation, Trust, Quality, and Teamwork.
