Electrical Principal Engineer
The Exploration Company
Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Principal Engineer to lead our Electrical AIT team. In this leadership role, you will oversee the electrical aspects of spacecraft assembly, integration, and testing.
You will also manage and develop a team of Electrical Engineers and Technicians, guiding them through mission-critical projects from concept to launch readiness. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our space systems and directly contribute to the success of our flight programs.
This position reports directly to our Chief AIT.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the electrical engineering function within the AIT department, overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of electrical integration and test campaigns.
Managing and mentoring a team of Electrical Engineers, including performance management, professional development, and technical oversight.
Define a roadmap regarding the development of our GSE and Command and control framework and manage its implementation with the support of the IT & Digital tools team.
Define and maintain electrical AIT processes, standards, and best practices across spacecraft programs.
Provide expert technical input on system-level integration and verification, power systems, harnessing, grounding schemes, EMC, and flight electrical architecture toward the team but also toward the system and design team.
Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Program Management to ensure alignment of electrical AIT with overall project goals.
Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex electrical integration and test issues on flight hardware.
Participate in design and readiness reviews, technical boards, and program meetings as the electrical AIT subject matter expert (Design to Manufacture).
Ensure all electrical integration activities comply with industry standards, mission requirements, and safety protocols.
Support the continuous improvement of AIT facilities, equipment, and test infrastructure to meet evolving spacecraft demands.
Potentially participate to response to BIDs on future programs.
What we would love to see from you:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Over 10 years of experience in spacecraft or aerospace electrical engineering, including hands-on AIT experience.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing technical teams and direct reports.
Deep understanding of spacecraft electrical subsystems (power, harnessing, avionics, RF, grounding, etc.) and integration/test practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across multidisciplinary teams.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Desirable:
Experience with environmental and functional testing of space systems (e.g., TVAC, vibration, EMC).
Familiarity with industry standards such as ECSS, NASA, or MIL-STD.
Experience in new space or agile hardware development environments.
-
Proficiency with electrical test tools and data analysis software.
