Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Controller to join our team, reporting to our Lead Controller. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support in various financial and administrative tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in all the fields of corporate finance (FP&A, Controlling and General Accounting) and the administrative field.

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning & Reporting:

    • Preparation of the annual Company budget (incl. statutory view and consolidated view), based on budget, including P&L, balance sheet, cash-flow statement

    • Prepare Actuals vs. Budget detailed variance analysis to highlight trends, risks and opportunities

    • Quarterly re-forecast based on actuals

    • Operating Planning / Business Plan as needed for fundraising,

    • Monthly company reporting to shareholders with actuals vs. budget for Cash-flows (indirect), P&L and Balance sheet

    • Monthly cash report (direct) by cost nature to the team with a detailed analysis of cash-in and cash-out vs. budget

  • Controlling:

    • Central controlling, including:

      • Preparation of budget by function (Cost center)

      • Hourly rate determination, follow-up and justification

      • Travel expenses

      • Overheads and G&A estimates

    • Project controlling including:

      • Revenue Recognition methodology analysis & implementation per contract (IFRS15)

      • EAC per programs, including revenue scheme, workload & cost of hours estimates, direct cost to programs

      • Risk analysis per program

      • Milestones and programs actuals follow-up, including customer invoicing

      • Proposal efforts for bids, including preparation of PSS for ESA programs

    • Manufacturing controlling, including:

      • Analysis of inventory and work-in-progress

      • Standard pricing variance on purchase (PPV) and production variance

      • Scrap, inventory count, and work-in-progress analysis

    • Actuals cash management, and budget tracking (Cost centers and Projects).

  • Accounting:

    • Preparation of closing journal entries linked to operations (complex postings, transfer pricing calculation, month-end accruals…)

    • Deep understanding of profit & loss sections and flows

  • Compliance, tools and others:

    • Develop internal control procedures and rules to ensure:

      • Compliance at every level of the company with laws and regulations

      • Prevent errors and fraud

      • Protection of company assets, people and company reputation

    • Drive financial processes within the Odoo ERP system, incl. impacts on the procurement, sales, HR and manufacturing modules

    • Seek for automation of processes for interfaces (API) between external tool use by the company and our ERP Odoo

    • Ensure improvements overtime in the tool and simplify processes

    • Research financial and administrative topics and prepare reports with findings and recommendations

    • Support the team in ad-hoc projects, as needed.

What we'd love to see from you:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in financial control in the aerospace industry

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Fluency in the English language

  • Knowledge of German, French or Italian is a plus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Dedicated to the team and owner of a friendly and approachable personality.
