About the role

As our Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be essential in achieving TestGorilla's vision of helping one billion people land their dream job. You'll lead and inspire one of our product engineering teams, driving technical excellence, strong ownership, and individual growth across the board.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery, operation, and evolution of critical product modules that power skills-based hiring for companies around the world. You'll report directly to the VP of Engineering and work closely with cross-functional leaders in Product, Design, and Data to ensure that engineering output directly supports TestGorilla's strategic objectives.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll be expected to foster a high-performance culture, not only through the reliable, scalable software your team builds, but also through the way you shape team collaboration, development practices, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

In this role, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Uphold TestGorilla's behaviors and foster an inclusive, supportive culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with global colleagues across teams and time zones.
  • Own delivery of key initiatives, ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes with measurable impact.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and other departments to drive alignment, planning, and prioritization.
  • Build and continuously improve engineering processes that drive quality, velocity, and team productivity.
  • Foster a data-driven culture by leveraging analytics in both your team and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Define, track, and report on team health using industry-standard metrics (DORA metrics, cycle time, defect rates).
  • Champion a healthy codebase through maintainable, well-tested code that aligns with our established standards.
  • Drive the technical vision, architecture decisions, and execution strategy in collaboration with the Head of Technology and VP of Engineering.
  • Foster a culture of trust, safety, high performance, ownership, and accountability.
  • Actively participate in hiring world-class engineers; grow and retain top talent.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, enabling them to grow in scope and impact.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about TestGorilla's mission to help one billion people find their dream jobs.
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership and collaboration abilities, underpinned by strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
  • Proven ability to lead senior engineers, cultivate technical leadership, and build high-performing engineering teams aligned with organizational goals.
  • Deep technical background in software engineering, with expertise in designing and scaling complex, distributed systems.
  • Experience operating in high-growth SaaS environments, ideally with B2B or platform-focused products.
  • Hands-on experience in Backend (Python) or Frontend (Angular/TypeScript) are strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud-native architecture; AWS experience is a big plus.
  • A track record of solving ambiguous problems, driving change, and leading at scale.

We typically expect candidates with at least 5 y. of experience in Engineering Management and at least 10+ years in technical roles to have the skills mentioned above.

  • Experience managing teams in asynchronous, fully remote, and multicultural environments.
  • Strong product sense and a history of close collaboration with product management.
  • Background in technical hiring and employer branding for engineering orgs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs in start-ups or scale-ups.
