As a member of a cross functional Product & Engineering team, this role will collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, Business stakeholder and other functions. The primary goal is to deliver scalable backend solutions, ensuring seamless integration and a reliable platform for our users.

As senior Backend engineer working within a well established domain, you have a key role in enhancing Oviva's technology by building and optimizing the services that power our applications and business. You will be responsible for the entire development lifecycle of platform capabilities, from design and implementation to deployment and maintenance. By leveraging your deep expertise in backend technologies, you will contribute directly to our mission of delivering a world-class digital health experience to our patients.

Essential:

• Proven, extensive experience in Java development, with a deep understanding of webservice frameworks

• Strong experience in designing and building service-oriented architectures

• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling complex technical challenges.

• Proven ability to work autonomously and deliver initiatives end-to-end.

• Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL or PostgreSQL).

• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform).

• A strong advocate for writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.

• Great teamwork - making sure the team as a whole succeeds

Desirable:

• Driven by a strong curiosity in AI and cutting-edge tech, you're hands-on, experimenting with AI-powered tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot)) to enhance productivity and code quality.

• Architectural Thinking: Strong engineering fundamentals and a deep understanding of solutions at scale.

• Strong tendency to prevent or automate recurring tasks

• Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and with business stakeholders

• Active participation in technical guilds or communities of practices.

• Experience in a regulated industry, such as healthcare.

• Hands-on experience working in a fast-paced, scale-up environment.

• Master in computer science or equivalent field

• Design, build, and operate reliable backend services.

• Take ownership of software domains and its underlying component

• Develop and manage APIs that are scalable, secure, and performant.

• Active contribution in team ceremonies, including the company's OKR framework.

• Pro-actively manages the health of owned services.

• Contribute to Oviva’s technology evolution via RFCs and Technical Document Design

• Manage incidents including root cause analysis and preventative actions.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines and development processes.

• Lead design discussions of owned topics & collaborates with squad members on quality, technical design, security & architecture in compliance with standards and concepts.

• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders on owned projects.

• Do code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
