About the job

We are looking for an experienced embedded software engineer to strengthen our work on Bluetooth LE Audio profiles and services in the Zephyr project and Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF Connect SDK. As part of the team responsible for Nordic's LE Audio software stack, you will contribute to leading technology that is used by developers and products across the industry.

This role deals mainly with code high in the Bluetooth stack. At the same time, the role requires a solid understanding of embedded systems and the practical realities of developing and testing software for and on real hardware. You will work daily with Zephyr, the nRF Connect SDK, and Nordic hardware while collaborating closely both with teams inside Nordic and the broader Zephyr community.

You will design, implement, review, and maintain LE Audio profiles and services, contribute upstream to Zephyr, participate in qualification and conformance efforts, and help integrate new functionality into Nordic's LE Audio solutions. You will also get a thorough knowledge of Bluetooth specifications and help interpret and resolve specification and test issues. In time, you will become a key contributor and technical owner within an important area of the Bluetooth stack.

Our code:

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend the Zephyr project’s and Nordic’s implementation of LE Audio profiles and services – design, implementation, tests, samples, documentation, ...

  • Get and maintain a thorough knowledge of relevant Bluetooth specifications. You will provide an implementer’s view on the specifications and your input will influence the Bluetooth specification work.

  • Participate in Bluetooth IOPs (InterOPerability testing) and UPFs (UnPlugFests) to test new specifications and implementations.

  • Contribute to conformance testing, test automation and qualification, from ICS specification via testing to issue debugging and fixing.

  • Assist in integrating profiles and services in our LE Audio solution and lending the application team a helping hand when needed.

Key Qualifications

  • Strong software development skills in C.

  • Knowledge of threading, concurrency and understanding the challenges of these

  • Knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy, ideally also GATT-based profiles and services

  • Experience with embedded systems development

  • Used to working with Linux and Linux-based tools.

  • Knowledge of the Zephyr project and how to work with large open-source projects.

  • Familiarity with Git, Github and how to work with code reviews and pull requests

  • Ability and willingness to communicate clearly and politely with the Zephyr community on Discord and in pull requests

Personal Skills

  • Being a person that the team enjoys working with, preferably with a sense of (somewhat nerdy) humor

  • A personal interest in open source software and development and an interest to improve workflows and tools rather than accepting poor methods

  • Works independently, but also cooperates well with others and in a team

  • Able to defend and rationale choices during code review, can/will challenge code review comments, and has an ability to separate work-related discussions from personal relations.

Working for Nordic

Working at Nordic, you will be inspired and supported to develop yourself. Our teams enjoy a professional and informal working environment. We value and encourage the continuous development of skills and expertise to the highest levels. We are proud of our Norwegian heritage, our highly skilled international workforce, and our world-leading innovation.

We offer a variety of tasks and projects, and the possibility to work alongside some of the world’s most renowned experts within their field. We encourage our employees to question the established and innovate while expecting professionalism, commitment, and the will to learn.
