Business Development Manager, nRF Cloud Taipei, Taiwan
Sales & Business Development
About the job
Join Nordic Semiconductor as the first dedicated nRF Cloud resource in Asia Pacific, taking full ownership of the region and building a new business from the ground up.
nRF Cloud is Nordic's suite of cloud services: device management and firmware-over-the-air updates, device observability powered by Memfault, location services, and secure identity and provisioning. Together with Nordic silicon and software, it gives customers a complete path from prototype to a managed fleet in the field. It is one of the fastest-growing parts of Nordic's business, and it is not yet represented in Asia Pacific by a dedicated resource.
You will be responsible for adoption and revenue growth for nRF Cloud across the region. The position reports into the nRF Cloud organization, with a dotted line to Asia Pacific Sales leadership. Your primary route to market is Nordic's existing customer base, working through and alongside the regional sales, FAE and distribution partners who own those relationships, with support from the nRF Cloud team in the US and Europe. There is no established regional playbook for this business. You will build it, and it will become the template for the team that follows.
The role requires an uncommon combination of technical and commercial capability. You will not have a dedicated Field Application Engineer, so you need to lead first-pass technical engagement yourself and know when to draw on specialist support. You will also be accountable for a commercial result, and comfortable being measured on one.
If you are motivated by building something new and creating real value for customers and partners, we would be excited to hear from you.
Key responsibilities
Develop and execute the sales strategy for nRF Cloud across Asia Pacific, assessing and qualifying opportunities and achieving design wins with cloud services attached
Identify and develop nRF Cloud opportunities within Nordic's existing regional customer base, in close collaboration with the regional sales and FAE organization, and pursue net-new customers where the opportunity warrants it
Take customers through evaluation and proof of concept: scope the PoC, define success criteria, keep it technically unblocked, and convert it into production volume
Lead first-line technical engagement on integration, architecture, device-to-cloud data flows, provisioning and FOTA strategy, utilizing internal resources including the nRF Cloud team, Strategic Application Managers and Field Application Engineers where deeper expertise is required
Structure and negotiate commercial agreements including subscription and lifetime license models, pilot-to-production terms and multi-year fleet commitments
Enable the regional organization and distribution partners through product training and joint opportunity reviews, so nRF Cloud is positioned effectively in opportunities you are not directly involved in
Record all sales activities in our CRM system and provide accurate pipeline reporting and forecasts, tracking proof of concepts initiated and converted alongside design wins and revenue
Support Product Managers and the nRF Cloud team with market intelligence by staying up to date on regional industry trends, competitor cloud offerings and pricing dynamics
Represent nRF Cloud in the region at events, webinars, developer conferences, distributors and design houses
Qualification and skills
Five or more years in technical sales, business development or solutions engineering within IoT, embedded systems or wireless connectivity, with direct ownership of a pipeline or commercial target
Experience with strategic selling: identifying decision makers, setting sales objectives, managing an opportunity pipeline, and tracking performance
Experience with wireless technologies and cloud or software services. Candidates whose experience is limited to component sales are unlikely to succeed in this role
Working knowledge of embedded firmware and IoT technologies, including MCUs, RTOS, cellular and short-range connectivity, FOTA, device provisioning and device lifecycle management
Working knowledge of cloud technologies, including APIs, device-to-cloud data flows and fleet management, and an understanding of how customers evaluate building this layer versus buying it
Demonstrated ability to operate credibly with both engineering and commercial stakeholders, from firmware engineers to procurement and executive decision-makers
Ability to work independently as the only nRF Cloud resource in the region, with limited local process or precedent
Excellent communication skills in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken
Based in Taipei, or willing to relocate
Preferred qualifications
Experience selling recurring-revenue software or services into hardware companies
Experience with IoT platforms, device management or device observability products. Relevant backgrounds include Tuya, Memfault, Golioth, Blues, Soracom, Particle, module vendor cloud platforms, and the IoT businesses of AWS, Azure and Alibaba Cloud
Experience introducing a new product or service into a region or market
Additional regional languages, particularly Japanese or Korean
Personal Skills
The ideal candidate has strong business acumen, an analytical mindset and a diligent work style, with the ability to understand technical problems and communicate convincing solutions to customers. You are a confident communicator and presenter, relationship-driven, and skilled at building long-term relationships across stakeholders. As a true self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and strong technology inquisitiveness, you take ownership, work independently when needed, and exercise sound judgement where local process and precedent do not yet exist. You enjoy working cross-functionally and across time zones, leveraging internal experts to win, and you are motivated by building a business rather than maintaining one.
What success looks like
First 90 days. Fluent in the product and its commercial models. Regional customer base mapped and prioritized. Working relationships established with regional sales, FAE and distribution colleagues and with the nRF Cloud team in the US and Europe. First qualified opportunities identified.
Six months. Proof of concepts running with named accounts, first business closed, and regional colleagues able to position nRF Cloud independently.
Twelve months. A repeatable regional playbook for nRF Cloud, a credible pipeline behind it, and a substantiated case for additional headcount.
