About the job

Nordic Semiconductor is looking for a Senior Embedded OS (Android AOSP, Linux) Field Engineer to be the technical face of Memfault, the device-observability platform recently acquired by Nordic, for customers building on Android/AOSP and embedded Linux.

This is a customer-facing engineering role. The primary mission is to guide prospects and customers through technical evaluation and get Memfault integrated into their development and production flows. That means running architecture reviews, driving proofs-of-concept to a successful outcome, and unblocking their engineers hands-on along the way. It suits someone who is comfortable in either Android/AOSP or embedded Linux and genuinely excited to grow into the other. This person also has the opportunity to contribute directly to Memfault's Android and Linux SDKs as they gain deep, unique insights into customers' use-cases and painpoints.

For additional context, this role is similar in nature to other industry roles such as Field Application Engineer (FAE), Forward Deployed Engineer, or Solution Architect / Engineer (SA / SE).

Key responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery of customers' existing architectures, and drive evaluations and POCs to success against agreed criteria

  • Own the hands-on integration of Memfault into customers' Android/AOSP and embedded Linux software, and into their development and product workflows

  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with customers' platform and firmware engineers to bring up coredumps, metrics, OTA, and logging, and to troubleshoot and unblock them

  • Deliver technical pitches, demos, and workshops, and answer the hard architecture questions, partnering closely with sales and customer success through the deal lifecycle

  • Close the loop with the product and SDK teams on gaps, bugs, and rough edges found in the field, and build reference examples, documentation, and tests where they help customers succeed

Qualification and skills

  • 5-8+ years in embedded software, with deep, production experience in either Android/AOSP or embedded Linux, plus the appetite to ramp up on the other

  • Strong C/C++ on embedded targets (Rust and/or Kotlin a plus); Android experience should be at the platform/AOSP level, not app-only

  • Experience with build systems such as Yocto, Buildroot, Soong, Bazel

  • Proven ability to work directly with customers, translating their technical needs and constraints into working integrations on their platform and their stack

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences

Personal Skills

  • At ease in front of customers: able to teach, earn technical trust in the room, and communicate clearly under pressure

  • Caring and kind: other people do better when they work with you

  • Communicates clearly and thoughtfully, both in writing and in conversation

  • Growth mindset, excited about contributing across firmware, operating systems, and distributed systems

  • The ideal candidate should be open to some travel, ≤10% of the time (approx. 1 week/quarter domestic, 1 week/year international)
