About littlefish
We are a fast-growing fintech startup powering financial institutions across the African continent through our full stack enterprise platform. Proudly rooted in South African values but with a vision that transcends borders, we provide a single stack that powers merchant acquiring across payments, onboarding, engagement, commerce and operations.
Help us enable every enterprise, connect every merchant, and make every transaction intelligent. Your work will create lasting change in how financial services are delivered
Role Summary
This is a field-facing client solutions role at the centre of how littlefish launches in new markets. You will work directly with financial institution clients across Africa, leading structured discovery, understanding business and technical requirements, and translating those into clear, usable inputs for our product and engineering teams. You will represent the littlefish platform with confidence, explain how our modules fit together, and help clients understand how the platform can address their needs without over-promising.
This role is not a deep internal architecture or software engineering role. It is a customer-facing role for someone who is technically literate, stakeholder-aware, commercially sensible, and highly structured., and highly structured. Your success will come from asking the right questions, capturing the right information, guiding solution discussions well, and ensuring our internal teams receive organised, actionable inputs that support successful implementation and go-live.
You are not expected to act as a deep internal systems architect or software designer, but you must be able to understand technical requirements at a practical level and structure them clearly for internal teams.
You are not the primary commercial owner of the account, but you will play a key role in building client confidence during discovery and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
In the field
Run structured discovery sessions with bank stakeholders across IT, compliance, marketing, operations, and legal — working from Product-defined templates and checklists
Walk bank IT teams through our integration requirements — comfortable discussing REST/JWT APIs, async flows, webhook configuration, structured file formats (CSV/JSON/XLSX), idempotency, and data validation logic
Collect everything needed for platform configuration: brand assets, DNS contacts, SMS gateway details, currency and tax structures, receipt format requirements, feature flag decisions per country, core banking API specs, and sandbox credentials
Represent the littlefish platform accurately to bank stakeholders — current capabilities and roadmap — without over-promising
Build strong working relationships with key country stakeholders at each financial institution
Understand customer goals, pain points, and operating requirements, and help map them to the relevant littlefish platform modules and configuration options
Guide solution conversations with bank stakeholders by explaining current platform capability, identifying where additional input is needed, and ensuring expectations are clear
Distinguish between confirmed platform capability, configuration decisions, and future roadmap items
Back at base
Package all field-collected information into clean, structured handoffs to the product and engineering teams — not raw notes, properly organised inputs
Flag blockers and risks to the relevant internal stakeholders promptly, with context and impact — not just status updates
Work from templates and frameworks defined by Product; identify gaps in those templates and feed them back
Participate in internal alignment sessions with Product to ensure collected information is complete and usable before it moves to engineering
Translate field discovery into practical recommendations, open questions, and clear next steps for Product and Engineering
What we're looking for
Must-have — Technical fluency
Solid understanding of REST API concepts: JWT authentication, async response handling, polling patterns, and webhooks — you don't need to build these, but you need to explain them to a bank's IT lead without blinking
Comfortable reading API documentation and schema definitions and knowing what questions to ask
Proficient with structured data formats — JSON, CSV, XLSX — well enough to validate a data file and spot a configuration error
Familiar with DNS basics: SPF, DKIM, DMARC — what they are, why they matter, and who at the bank needs to action them
Able to use a tool like Postman to test an endpoint and interpret responses
Ability to learn the littlefish platform deeply and explain how its modules fit together in a way that is clear to both business and technical stakeholders
Able to connect customer requirements to platform capability and identify where configuration, integration, or further internal input is required
Must-have — Client & stakeholder capability
Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders across IT, compliance, operations, and business functions within banks and financial institutions
Experienced in leading structured discovery sessions across mixed stakeholder groups
Able to simplify technical concepts without sounding simplistic
Confident enough to ask direct questions, challenge ambiguity, and close gaps in requirements
Able to build trust and momentum with client teams while keeping internal teams accurately informed
Clear and disciplined communicator, both verbally and in writing
Must-have — Personal attributes
Obsessive attention to detail — configuration errors in financial platforms have real consequences at scale
Comfortable with ambiguity — different banks in different markets have wildly different levels of technical maturity
Proactive about flagging problems early rather than hoping they resolve themselves
Nice to have
Prior experience in a technical implementation, solutions delivery, or technical pre-sales role at a B2B SaaS company
Exposure to African financial services — core banking systems and local payment schemes
Familiarity with white-label platform deployments or multi-tenant SaaS configuration
What success looks like
You run structured client discovery sessions that surface the right operational and technical inputs early
You represent the littlefish platform accurately and confidently in customer conversations
You translate client needs into organised, actionable internal handovers
You identify risks, blockers, and missing decisions early
You help create smoother implementations by reducing ambiguity before work reaches Product and Engineering
The role in context
Seniority: Mid-level. Likely 3–6 years of relevant experience in implementation, client solutions, technical delivery, business systems analysis, or solution consulting.
Reporting line: Reports to the Managing Executive: Africa and works closely with Product and Engineering to ensure client requirements are well understood, well structured, and implementation-ready.
Travel: Regular travel across African markets is a core part of this role, not an occasional requirement.
This role suits someone who is comfortable at the intersection of customers, product, and technical delivery. It is ideal for a technically literate, client-facing operator rather than a deep software engineer or internal enterprise architect.
If you’re a structured, technically literate client-facing operator who thrives on uncovering the right information, guiding clear solution conversations, and setting teams up for successful delivery, we’d like to talk.
