About the role

The Head of Commercial at Igloo will be responsible for driving business growth by acquiring new clients and partners, managing existing commercial relationships, and aligning Igloo’s offerings with market demands. This role requires a strategic thinker capable of collaborating across functions including compliance, operations, and finance, while ensuring the company’s commercial objectives align with regulatory standards and market trends. The position involves high-level management, coordination, and partnership-building across both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

Client and Partner Acquisition:

  • Lead initiatives to identify, prospect, and secure new clients and strategic partners to drive Igloo’s market expansion.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy in alignment with Igloo’s overall commercial goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-profile partners and clients, focusing on long-term growth.

Account Management Oversight:

  • Provide strategic guidance to Business Development Managers, who are responsible for the day-to-day management of accounts.
  • Be looped into high-level client issues or strategic discussions but delegate operational account management to direct reports.
  • Ensure that Business Development Managers meet their targets and align with company goals in terms of client retention and growth.

Collaboration with Compliance:

  • Work closely with the compliance team to ensure all partnerships and deals adhere to industry regulations and company policies.
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates to ensure Igloo’s offerings remain compliant with local laws and industry standards.

Strategic Coordination with Operations & Finance:

  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure smooth onboarding of new clients and partners, ensuring that all operational requirements are met.
  • Partner with the finance team to monitor commercial financials, ensuring revenue and profitability targets are achieved.
  • Engage in financial planning and forecasting to align commercial strategies with Igloo’s business goals.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Manage, mentor, and grow the local commercial team, with a specific focus on developing Business Development Managers to handle client relations and account management.
  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to ensure alignment on commercial strategies and share best practices across markets.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work with the product, marketing, and engineering teams to develop and introduce new products, services, and customer-centric initiatives.
  • Coordinate with the insurance and tech teams to ensure that commercial offerings meet client and market demands.

Revenue Growth and Business Development:

  • Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline to support business growth, with a focus on closing high-value deals.
  • Analyze market trends and competition to inform strategic decisions and optimize business development efforts.
  • Ensure the company’s commercial performance aligns with financial targets and overall business plans.

Ad hoc Projects:

  • Take on special projects and initiatives that support the company’s commercial objectives and contribute to broader business goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related fields; MBA is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in commercial, business development, or sales roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity within the insurance, fintech, or tech industries.
  • Proven track record in acquiring and managing high-value clients and partnerships, with a strong focus on new business development.
  • Knowledge of the insurance or financial services sector, including regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams, particularly in a business development or sales environment.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience working with finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
  • Effective communicator and negotiator with a proven ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
