Why Data & Analytics at AMBOSS?

Join a high-trust, cross-functional team where data sits at the heart of every product decision, commercial bet and operational process. You will work side-by-side with our Data Engineers, Product, Engineering, Commercial, Medical and Operations colleagues to turn a modern, cloud-native stack (GCP/AWS, BigQuery, Airflow, Airbyte, dbt, Looker, Mixpanel, Claude Code) plus a growing set of integrations and internal tools into reliable insights that move the business forward. Your work will guide decisions that reach medical students and clinicians worldwide, directly advancing our mission to enable all medical professionals to provide the best possible care.

Role Overview

As a Junior Data Analyst at AMBOSS you are a problem-solver who happens to use data. This is not a traditional dashboard-building role. We expect Analysts to operate the full stack: from raw data transformations and modelling in dbt to producing the insights that drive stakeholder decisions. You will learn to own analytical questions end-to-end rather than waiting for someone else to prepare the data for you.

You will:

  • Own analytical questions end-to-end. Take a business problem, find the right raw data, transform and model it, run the analysis and turn it into a clear recommendation.

  • Partner with Product, Commercial, Medical and Operations teams to scope questions properly before touching any code. Most analytical work goes wrong at the framing step, not the calculation step.

  • Build and maintain dbt models for your domain. Treat your transformations as production assets, with tests, documentation and version control.

  • Build dashboards and data stories that stakeholders actually use. Default to simple, decision-oriented views over impressive-looking ones.

  • Use AI with judgment. Use AI to boost productivity and develop the judgment to know when to trust the output and when to throw it out. Expect the way you work to look meaningfully different six months from now.

  • Run experiments and A/B tests. Help product teams design and set them up, look at the results and interpret them together.

  • Question your own outputs. Validate inputs, sanity-check outputs and flag what you are not sure about.

  • Document and share. Make the next person's job easier by documenting data sources, definitions and decisions as you go.

You Bring:

  • Endless curiosity and a questioning mindset.

  • Comfort with AI tools (Claude or similar) and an instinct to reach for them rather than around them.

  • Strong communication skills in English. German is a plus.

  • Up to 1 year of previous work experience (internships, side projects or academic work all count). Plus points for previous work experience in data analysis, analytics engineering or a closely related field.

  • Not expected, but a plus:

    • Any exposure to dbt, Looker, BigQuery or experiment analysis.

    • SQL fundamentals: writing joins, window functions and CTEs.

    • Exposure to Python or similar. You've dabbled in scripting.

    • Storytelling skills: experience "packaging" facts into a story that helps insights cut through the noise.

You Enjoy:

  • Starting from the problem, not the data. You'd rather spend time understanding what a stakeholder actually needs to decide than rush to produce the chart they asked for. When someone asks for "a dashboard with all the metrics," your instinct is to ask "what decision will this help you make?"

  • Connecting the dots. You instinctively place problems in the bigger picture, both technically and on the business side. You're suspicious of analyses that answer the narrow question but ignore the surrounding system.

  • Learning fast in an unstructured environment. You're comfortable being slightly out of your depth, across new tools, new domains and new parts of the stack. You navigate ambiguity without waiting to be handed a clean brief. You'd rather try and be wrong than wait until you're sure.

  • Questioning everything, including yourself. You instinctively look for the line between facts and assumptions and like challenging the latter. Your favourite sentence is "Wait, but why?" and you turn that same skepticism on your own work, flagging uncertainty rather than overstating confidence.

  • Building for the next person, including future-you. You think past the immediate deliverable to whoever will use, extend or maintain it next. You'd rather invest in a solid foundation today than ship a shortcut that creates more work down the line. Hard life now, easy life later.

  • Working openly with others. You value direct feedback in both directions and you ask for help before you've been stuck for too long.
